I have been involved in specific men's health work since 2001 when I became National Co-ordinator of the Men's Health Forum Scotland. This organisation was set up in response to the dreadful state of men's health here and the lack of any structured attempt to sort it out by the public sector. Things haven't changed too much since then, although the organisation has had some modest successes and is still working hard to bring about more change. I currently act as its Chair.
In my other jobs I have been involved in men's health work too, the most important example of which was the Aw'right project, which I managed for fpa, which was a sexual health development project for young men run over three years. (See here for a little more detail).
In this part of the website (once I get a bit more organised) I'll put up some articles that I've written about this issue, details of other organisations' work, and details of training that Jim Leishman and I will be developing and delivering together. The first event that we are putting on is called Masculinity and Health Service Provision on December 7th: see the course outline for details.
These will generally be courses open to any interested person to book a place on, but if you want a course specially tailored to your team or work then get in touch for a discussion about what you need.
